Nephrology nursing is a specialized area of nursing that is directed towards individuals with End Stage Renal Disease and their families. Nephrology nurses practice in ambulatory care settings, such as clinics, and hospital-based dialysis centers, as well as free-standing dialysis facilities, home training programs, and transplant units. Nephrology nurses involved in the dialysis process may provide care for patients over a lengthy period of time, usually several years.
